George Washington and his first wife Elizabeth Stitt, had one child Julia Ann.

Julia was born circa 1841. Julia's mother Elizabeth died in 1841. I would imagine that George and his second wife raised her, as she was just a baby

when her mother died. Julia married Greenville (Granville) Hinshaw on December 18, 1861 in Athens County. Julia and Hinshaw had 2 children William and George.

      George Washington Snowden and his second wife Hannah Vanatta Snowden had 11 children.

       First born of George and Hannah was Isaac C. Snowden. Isaac was born August 9, 1843, and died March 11, 1933. Isaac first married to Mary Goodin. They married on March 22, 1864. Mary was born May 1847. She died March 1919.Mary was the daughter of John and Nancy (Pratt) Goodin. Isaacs second marriage was to Daisy Knowlton on November 13, 1920, in Parkersburg W.VA. Daisy was born March 2, 1878, in Athens County. She was the daughter of Benjamin and Emily (Lee) Knowlton. Daisy married a second time to Bert Mariner. Isaac served in Regiment 87 and Company A, 129th Regiment, Ohio. Volunteered Infantry, in the Civil War. Isaac is buried in Union Cemetery, which is adjacent to Alexander Presbyterian Church, Athens Co., Oh. Isaac and his first wife, Mary Goodin had 6 children. First, Luely, Born February 28, 1865;died February 26, 1866.Second, Elma, born February 24, 1867, died July 9,1913. Married September 10, 1887 to Marion Robinett, who was born 1864 and died in 1944. Third, Minerva Jane, born June 4, 1871;died February 22, 1900. Married to John C. Howard on September 2, 1891. Fourth, Mary Iona, born October 2, 1875/6; died April 16, 1902. Married a Haning. Buried in Union Cemetery. Fifth born, Sarah L. (Sadie), born March 11, 1878; died November 25, 1919.First married to Birch Dew. Second marriage to Herbert Whetstone, on March 22, 1908. Buried Union Cemetery. Sixth and last born, Charles R., born March 21, 1880, died December 16, 1902. He was unmarried. Buried in Union Cemetery. 

           Second born of George Washington and Hannah Vanatta Snowden was Mary Jane, born March 20, 1845; died October 26, 1930. She married October 5, 1861 to Leander C. Goodin. He was born Marc 18, 1843, in Belmont County, OH; and he died age 67 yrs. 9 month, 8 days old. He was the son of John and Nancy (Pratt) Goodin. He is buried in Sidney, Iowa. He served in the Civil War, Company I, 92nd Regiment, OH Volunteer Infantry. They moved to Freemont County, Iowa in 1878. They had four children. First was George M, born April 1862, died May 28, 1953.He married Nettie Fichter and had other marriages. Second born was Eva A., not known when born. She married Homer Marvin on December 10, 1885. She married a second time to a Spittler. Third, Sarah Jane. Only known fact was she married Henry Schullthies. And last born was Lewis L., born November 1879. He married Lennie Wightman.

           Third born of George Washington and Hannah Vanatta Snowden was Mariah, born January 7, 1847; died November 19, 1926. Her first marriage was to Robert F. Goodin, on March 29,1865. He died February 16, 1866. Robert was also the son of John and Nancy (Pratt) Goodin. Robert Goodin

is buried in Basset Cemetery, in Athens Co., with a Government Marker, Company C, and 30th OH Voluntary Infantry.

Mariah's 2nd marriage was Lewis Love on March 18, 1867. Lewis was born January 5, 1847; died September 1, 1920. He was the son of William and Eliza (Pierce) Love. Love served in Company A 129th Regiment, OH Volunteer Infantry; received Civil War Pension. Mariah and Love were buried in Sidney, Iowa. This family moved to Fremont County, Iowa. They had 3 children, first-born Clara born September 16, 1867, died November 2, 1953. Married Linzie DeFreece on, August 14, 1884. Second child, Bertha Jane, born February 22, 1869, died May 15, 1928. Married February 13, 1889 to G. Talton DeFreece. Third child, Elsie Mae, born February 23, 1873, died March 9, 1938. Married March 17, 1891, to Walter Scott Liggett.

              Fourth born of George Washington and Hannah Vanatta Snowden was George Washington Jr. He was born 1849. He died young.

               Fifth born of George Washington and Hannah Vanatta Snowden was John. He was born January 2, 1851; and he died October 12, 1855. 

                Sixth born of George Washington and Hannah Snowden was Henry H. Snowden. He was born January 13, 1853 and died August 6, 1920. He married November 4, 1878, Lovina Goodin. She was born November 25, 1850; died January 15, 1916. Lovina was the daughter of John and Nancy (Pratt) Goodin. Residents of Glouster, and Athens County Ohio. Buried Cross Roads Cemetery, Trimble Twp. OH. Henry and Lovina Snowden had 6 children. Their first-born was Luster, born April 26, 1880, died Jun/July of 1946. Married Lenna Lee Shell on February 7, 1900. Lenna was born August 10, 1881. Last known living was in 1962, not know when died. She was the daughter of Moses and Edith Shell. Buried in Maple Wood Cemetery, Glouster. They had no children.  Second born of Henry and Lovina Snowden was Lillie Mae, Born December 25, 1882. What a nice Christmas present she must of been for her family. She died October 5, 1972. She married April 24, 1901 Envy Hanford Hines. Third born of Henry and Lovina Snowden was James, born August 25, 1884, and he died May 15, 1957. His first marriage was to Jessie Rutter. His second marriage was to Clara Henry on April 25, 1908. Fourth born of Henry and Lovina Snowden was Jackson (Jack), born March 30, 1886 and died March 25, 1931. He married Louise E. Matthews on November 28,1905. Fifth born of Henry and Lovina Snowden was George Washington, born December 31, 1888. He must have brought in the New Year! He died November 27, 1921. He married September 18, 1909, Dorothy Mae Haing. She was born June 10,1888 and died in 1953. She remarried Cecil G. Hummel. Burial Hibbardsville. She had 2 children, probably with her first husband George. Gerald who was born in 1910, and who at one time resided in Texas, and Irene the other child. Last child of Henry and Lovina Snowden was Blanche, she born March 10, 1891; and died May 8, 1941. She married Harley McCall. Buried School Lot Cemetery at Carpenter. Blanche and Harley had 9 children.

               Seventh born child of George Washington and Hannah Vanatta Snowden was Hester, married August 1, 1872 to Victor H. Goshen.

                Eighth born child of George Washington and Hannah Vanatta Snowden was Thomas Josiah Snowden. He was born April 17, 1857; died September 14, 1880. He married Mary E. Hill on May 11, 1878. She was born December 1859 in Illinois. After Thomas's death she married Gilbert Casey, a farmer in Alexander Twp., Athens County OH. She and Thomas had one child, Cora who was born October 1879.

                 Ninth born of George Washington and Hannah Vanatta Snowden Preston H. Snowden. He was born January 1859, Athens County, OH; and died August 31, 1919, Lee Twp., Athens County, OH. He married Jennie M. (Nannie) Shrader on April 22, 1881. She was born April 1859 and died 1928. They, Jennie and Preston, 5 children, all born in Athens County, OH. Their first-born was Preston Alvidor Snowden, born March 27, 1882, died 1946. He married November 21, 1903 Bessie Steinmetz. She was born 1887 and died in1944. Second born of Jennie and Preston was Elsie Clare, born September 1883. She married Samuel Underwood. They resided in Trimble, Ohio. It appears they had no children. Third born of Jennie and Preston Snowden was Guy Montgomery Snowden. He was born January 19, 1886. He died February 23, 1941. He married Anna L. last name unknown, Snowden. She was born in 1888. She died March 15, 1943. They were residents of Knox. Twp., Vinton County, OH. They had one child, Preston Jr., and when he grew up he was a resident of Point Pleasant, W.VA.

Fourth born of Preston and Jennie Snowden was Octra V. Snowden. She was born April 4, 1888. And final child of Preston and Jennie was Nellie F. Snowden. She was born August 23, 1804. She married a man with the last name of Brown.

                  Tenth born child of George Washington Snowden and Hannah Vanatta Snowden was Charles. He was born 1861. All that is known of him is that he died young.

                  The eleventh and last child of George Washington Snowden was Ellsworth Jefferson "CAP" Snowden, born 4/21/1863 died 6/14/1932. He is our direct descendant. He is the webmaster's, Nancy Burns's Great Grandfather. I will talk about him in full in the next generation, Generation Ten
