GENERATION SEVEN, WILLIAM SNOWDEN AND UNKNOWN HOOTEN SNOWDEN

GENERATION SEVEN, WILLIAM SNOWDEN AND UNKNOWN HOOTEN SNOWDEN

William Snowden son of  John Snowden and Dorothy Wilkes of Generation two. William Snowden of Edwinsboro, Nottinghamshire, England. Born circa 1603 and died circa 1677/78, Not known who his wife was, but speculators think he married a "Hooten" girl. She was born circa 1610.

The history begins with William in jolly ole' England. Research believes he was a yeoman (farmer). He had a son, John Snowden of Generation four which you can read about in the next page.

The Snowden family settled in the New Jersey Pennsylvania area, four years before the arrival of William Penn. In 1676 William Penn and three Quaker associates, having acquired the West New Jersey lands, sold them off as shares in a Proprietorship. On July 6/7, 1677 Quaker, Richard Mew of Ratcliffe, England, conveyed (sold) 1/6 of his proprietary share in West Jersey lands to William Snowden, who is this generation three, of Edwinsboro, Nottinghamshire, England and also John Hooton of "Skeby" of the same shire. ( This info is from N. J. Archives, Ser. 1, vol21, pg 476)
Willam Snowden apparently died shortly in England after his purchase in 1677, and never came to the colonies, of West New Jersey. But John Snowden, Generation four to follow, his son, came to claim his fathers share.
