Preston Thomas Snowden 1795 – 1835 • KNCY-TFL oldest son of Joseph Jr. Snowden and Margaret Haning Snowden. He was born circa 1795 in Washington County, PA, and died circa 1824. His wife Mrs Snowden was born about 1794 – died 1850 • 9WF2-FVKwife, daughter of unknown.          The Preston Snowden probably paid taxes during the few years he lived while of age.Preston Snowden probably lived at home and farmed the place. At that time home was the 80 acres of land that his mother Margaret Haning Snowden leased from the Ohio University at Athens, in 1807. This land was in Athens, in Alexandar Twp., OH. The U.S. censuses indicate that he and later his unidentified wife and family made their home with his mother, Margaret. As a tribute to his mother Margaret, whom Margarets Creek was named for, he buried her on an eminence on farm lot #7, Section 24, overlooking the stream, Margarets Creek. The two-story home was still standing circa 1960.

              They had twin sons, one of whom being Thomas Jefferson Snowden, born August 4, 1822, and died February 4, 1866, Vinton County OH. He married Margaret Jane Cobeen, on April 11, 1884. They had no children.

               The other twin son, and our direct descendant, was George Washington Snowden. He was born August 4, 1822. Unknown when he died. He married first time to Elizabeth "Stitt" Snowden, on September 14, 1840. They had one child Julia Ann. He married a second time to Hannah "Vanatta" Snowden, on October 10, 1842. They had 11 children, Isaac, Mary Jane, Mariah, George Jr., John, Henry H., Hester, Thomas Josiah, Preston, Charles, and Ellsworth Jefferson Snowden, who is our direct descendant whom I speak of in the next generation. He married again a third time to Rachel (Barnes) Snowden. Don't believe they had children.
